Mathijs Doets and Eva van Venrooij - Xerte at Erasmus MC: 5 years of experience
From Julian Tenney
At the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, we have been using Xerte for the past five years. Currently, over 300 learning objects are used in the medical curriculum, especially for the new master curriculum which was implemented in 2017 according to the principles of flipping the classroom. In 2019, we started using the Xerte dashboard and gave faculty members access to the learning analytics, allowing them to better prepare their classes. In 2020, we started a pilot to implement the new adaptive learning content page in our learning objects, with the aim to meet individual students’ needs.. In this presentation, we will show different examples of Xerte learning objects, we will explain how they are used, and share evaluations that were held among students and teachers. Teachers were asked about the dashboard, and these evaluations show a promising start, but further work needs to be done to enhance the user experience. Also, we will focus on adaptive learning. We will show how the adaptive content page is embedded in a learning object, which allows the students to see how well they performed on the learning goals. Dependent on their score, they recieve a personal advice on whether more exercise is needed to master a learning goal. We will present the evaluations of students on how they value this adaptive learning object.
