Dr Andrew Harrison, Director of the DH Lawrence Research Centre at the University of Nottingham tells the story of the author's colourful friendship with an American writer and traveller, Maurice Magnus.
Magnus' memoir of his time in the French Foreign Legion was published after he took his own life, with Laurence's own memoir of Magnus as a foreword to the book.
The manuscript, 'Dregs' is one of thousands of items being digitised in 2021/22 by the university's Department of Manuscripts and Special Collections thanks to Arts Council funding.
